Eversince I was a child, I was already a devout Catholic. My mom would take us to the Sto. Nino de Tondo Church or at the St. Joseph Church of Gagalangin, both in Manila every Sunday. Me and my sister started our primary studies at a Catholic School. This basically laid down the foundation of the Catholic faith in our hearts.
Now, I won’t deny that I didn’t fell astray from the church. In fact, it happened so many times. First was when I lost faith to the priesthood because of too much dwelling into Philippine politics. That started way back 1986 at the height of the EDSA Revolt wherein I was only 11 years young. This loss of faith and confidence with the priesthood continued until 1995. Yes, for 9 long years, I shied away from the church that nurtured me. It was only during 1995, through my mom’s unending prodding, that I finally found my way back to the faith. It was through the Catholic Charismatic Community that I found the right way back to Hands of the Lord.
During that 9 long years, I’ve seen so much about the different religious denominations. I used to believe that all bibles, regardless of the denominations, are similar in contents. But the 9 years of my separation with the one true church taught me otherwise. I found out that not all biblical translations contains the same exact contents. How did I found out? Simple. I had copies of those bible versions from different denominations. I had one from the protestants, I had a copy of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, I had the version of the Mormons, I had the version of Jehova’s Witnesses and I had a copy of those from the Born-again Christians. I even had a copy of the Qur’an!
I was able to attend various indoctrinations of varying sects. I was indoctrinated by the Jehova’s Witnesses. I was invited to a Born-again Christian’s Evangelization. I was able to listen to an INC’s Pamamahayag ng Salita ng Diyos. And I had a friendly debate with a Muslim Qur’an expert.
The last one almost tripped me off the faith. Islam’s very factual and specific tirades against our Catholic Bible somehow caught me off guard. Things like conflicting age declarations on different books of the Old Testament, different figures accounted on two different chapters that refers to a single event, etc. In all, my Muslim friend presented more than 50 contradictory accounts in the Old Testament alone. Whew!
But after discussing with our Charismatic Community’s Head Servant who happens to be a biblical scholar, I was enlightened on the once conflicting accounts. And it gave birth to a new passion in me. A new passion for the Catholic Church that has nurtured me amidst my foolishness. A passion to defend the Catholic Cathechism and Doctrines.
This blog is aimed at providing factual rebuttals to most of the issues being hurled at the Catholic faithfuls by other denominations. I am going to present the biblical truth through the help of Fr. Paul Kaiparambadan who is also the main mover of the Catholic Newsletter “Know the Truth” which originated from Malabon, Metro Manila Philippines.
May we be able to shed lights on the topics that are continuously being hurled against our Church through the use of Biblical verses.
May God help us in our efforts to launch a modern-day crusade in regaining the upperhand in this eternal battle between Good and Evil.
“And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: for false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” Mark 13:21-22
